G • 6’3, 200 lbs; 11th year, Arizona

SALTY DOG

NBA ROLE: (VETERAN) COMBO GUARD

Amongst the league’s veteran combo guards, Jerryd Bayless holds his own; Bayless provides points outta the second unit – can play both guard spots; can create his own looks (mainly pull-up Js) – good scoring aptitude in the midrange area: leaning jumpers, Js after high ball screens; doesn’t leap as well as his ‘Zona days but Bayless can finish over the top when the stars align; dribbling in place and poor shot selection has plagued Jerryd his entire career – performs better next to a playmaker in the backcourt; tough on-ball defender, won’t normally let his matchup get off for a big night; seasoned backup: prepared whenever summoned

#41•K. KOUFOS

C • 7’0, 265 lbs; 11th year, Ohio State

SALTY DOG

NBA ROLE: OFFENSIVE-MINDED PIVOT

Kosta Koufos is another ‘third’ big getting it done in the Association; won’t play heavy minutes, demand a certain number of touches or have many sets catered towards getting him buckets – Koufos isn’t about the stats, he understands & accepts his position, while realizing the significance of fulfilling his role; nice post scorer – good hands, loves lil runners & quick hooks; likes sweeping right-handers, goes up w/ purpose after handling dump-off passes; active defender: hard-working 7-footer – Koufos keeps his arms straight up while contesting shots (struggles w/ lateral lockdowns & closeouts, protecting the paint is a more natural fit); has perfected the role of ‘recurring guest’ – goes above & beyond his usual’s night’s work if a top performer is injured, offers plenty of intangibles* during sporadic appearances on a fully healthy roster; utility/backup 5 for Dave Joerger – his role shouldn’t change one iota moving forward

*Koufos is a great screen-setter – gives his guard enough room to roam and create an open shot

UNDERDOG

NBA ROLE: BACKUP PG

A Canadian lead guard w/ moxie & poise, Tyler Ennis is developing his floor game while hoping to carve out more PT; reserve playmaker for Coach Luke Walton; slowly becoming more comfortable making plays in the PnR, can get his own buckets from midrange or find bigs in deep; poker face – rarely rattled in big moments, loves the pressure; quick, deliberate driver – pretty good at finishing with his left, puts pressure via penetration & getting out on the break; making strides as a shooter; push for more minutes in 2018-19?
