TYSON CHANDLER (HOU)
#19•T. CHANDLER
C • 7’1, 240 lbs; 19th year, Dominguez HS (CA)
SALTY DOG
NBA ROLE: (VETERAN) REBOUNDER/RIM PROTECTOR
It’s amazing what Tyson Chandler’s accomplished after shaking an early (unfair) ‘bust’ label; struggled to adjust as a straight outta-Dominguez Hills HS-draftee but worked on his game, stuck w/ it & perfected his raw, defensive traits; an untapped center, Chandler’s fortune turned around in New Orleans, where Chris Paul helped turn him into a premiere oop-catcher/catch & finish guy* – all the while, Chandler continued to put on as a rebounder & rim protector; earned an NBA Championship (2011), Defensive Player of the Year trophy (2012), Olympic Gold Medal (2012) & All-Star appearance (2013) through elite play as a stopper (versatile PnR switch & closeout guy, while also locking down the paint), got better every season; great screen setter, however illegal they may be – Tyson does a clever job of sticking his hip out at the exact moment he connects w/ the defender; still good for consistent numbers on the glass; signed w/ Rockets – provides leadership/defense outta Unit #2
*CP pretty much molded Tyson into an "oop finisher" – his back to the basket game or 15-foot J never came into fruition but it didn’t matter
