Vernon Carey Jr: lefty big w/ upside as a rim protector & instant-offense scorer; fully utilizes wingspan defensively - Carey’s able to cover a ton of ground as a help side defender, can get to/contest shots from across the lane; moves well after screening, keeps hands high (strong roll finisher) - likes to go to his dominant side, can convert with runners; needs to work on counters to finish even more efficiently through multiple defenders; does work early before posting - Carey seals his defender before positioning himself for an easy bucket (“dump it in” post player in the league?); new wave skills: can handle the ball a bit off catches & stretch the floor from deep (shot 38% on limited attempts at Duke); defensive activity & paint scoring prowess should yield minutes in Washington, rim protection & efficiency will determine long-term path - low risk, high reward prospect
