NBA ROLE: (RAW) VERSATILE, DEFENSIVE FORWARD

 

Spain’s Usman Garuba, a 6’8 forward who presents a problem on the defensive end; defensive identity is defined by toughness: likes to play physical w/ opponents to throw off rhythm, rotates very well; gets a lot of steals, shuts down plays at the point of attack; will make a name as a rim protector at the 4/5 - sells out for blocks, normally denies easy chances if challenged head up (1-on-1); rebounds very well (good motor: activity is the name of the game); good speed off the dribble, needs to work on a couple of escape moves to keep defenders from sitting on the shot or packing the pain; outside game is an ongoing, work in progress - could make nice strides in Houston’s system but might not take not high volume for a couple of years; fouls a lot at this stage, has to cut on it once he gets regular time on the court; will benefit a ton playing w/ Draymond Green; nice flier for the Dubs: Garuba’s a young defender for GSW to cultivate
